Trump Supporters Threaten Congressman with Lynching After he Calls for Trump’s Impeachment

Congressman Al Green received threatening messages after he called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump while speaking on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Texas Democrat has been especially critical of Trump’s handling of the allegations of collusion between members of his campaign and Russia.

The President’s firing of FBI Director James Comey has many, including Rep. Green, insisting that the action was an obstruction of justice. Stating that even presidents are subject to the rule of law, Green in his Wednesday speech to the House, affirmed his belief that Trump’s actions were an impeachable offense.

Soon after his speech, Green began receiving threatening messages, including voicemails, at his Washington D.C. office and also at his Houston one. He played some of the voice messages for the public during a town hall meeting Saturday. The audience, numbering around 100 people, heard the callers in several of the messages declare that Green deserved to hang for pressing the impeachment issue.

One caller used derogatory racial language in his message to the black congressman. Green, who was president of the NAACP branch in Houston prior to serving in Congress, felt it was important for the public to know that their representative was threatened with lynching. Now in his seventh term, Green vowed that the threatening calls would not deter him from pressing for Trump’s impeachment.
