When Raj was outside one day, he heard something coming from under the ground. Unsure of what could be making the strange and awful noise, he investigated. What he found was a hole that led to a sewage drain.
When he peered inside, he realized that the groaning sounds were coming from the dark cavity. Then, he thought he saw movement in the darkness. Two eyes were looking back at him. The terrified howling grew louder, and Raj realized that a puppy was stuck in the drain. If Raj didn’t find help soon, the puppy would drown.
Rescuers knew that they would have to move quickly. They decided to use the only resources that they had, which were their own bodies. One of the rescuers was lowered into the hole. The others were holding onto his feet.
There wasn’t much wiggle room, but the men were determined to save the puppy. The man reached out his arms and reached for the drowning dog. When he felt the wet and matted fur, he tightened his grip, and the other rescuers pulled him up.
They rejoiced. They had saved the dog’s life. The puppy was skittish at first. He had undergone an intense and distressing ordeal. However, Raj spent time getting the dog more comfortable with humans. He fed him by hand and provided comfort. Slowly, the puppy began to trust people again. Within two days, his eyes had transformed from droopy and unresponsive to brilliant and playful.
