Many people complain about the shoddy quality of modern furniture. However, this actually comes with one benefit. While most people would not be willing to significantly alter quality oak or cherry wood, they would not think twice about doing whatever they wanted to the cheap wood of which a lot of modern furniture is made.
Kelsey Johnson is a blogger for Design-Innovate-Create, and she decided to do something really cool with a dresser when a friend of hers wanted some help with one. She started the process by taking out all of the drawers and putting everything out in the front yard.
Then, she took out all the hardware, and they sprayed the dresser a shade of grey. They then draped lace over the drawers, and then they spray painted the lace covered drawers in pink, since Kelsey’s friends favorite color combination was grey and pink. After letting them dry, they put on a second coat, and then peeled off the lace after everything was dry. This left the drawer with a beautiful pattern that resembled the lace, in grey and pink.
They then used metallic paint to dress up the old hardware, and then put the hardware back into the drawers. The finished product looked extremely different from the original dresser, and it was absolutely amazing what they were able to do with it. They were able to take an old, ordinary dresser and turn it into something that was visually appealing and showed a great deal of personality.
