Senior prom is one of the biggest nights for high school seniors. Most students look forward to the big dance all year long. It is a chance to dress up in fancy dresses and tuxedos and celebrate their upcoming graduation.
Paige Walls, a special needs high school senior from Hulbert, OK, is no exception. With her high school senior prom coming up, Paige was looking forward to attending the dance with her father by her side. When Paige was just an infant, her parents Charles and Mona said that she suffered from seizures that left them terrified as to what the cause could be. While some doctors dismissed their fears, one doctor took their fears seriously and diagnosed Paige with a rare genetic condition called CDKL5.
Despite having this condition, Paige was not going to let it stop her from celebrating her senior prom. With her mother’s help, the pair found the perfect peacock-style dress for the teen to wear. Unfortunately they got the news that her date was unable to attend. Her father was unable to get the time off of work to be able to escort his daughter to the big dance but the mother and daughter had the perfect back-up date in mind.
Mona and Paige wrote a letter to Dr. James A. Lewis, the physician who is more like a family member to them at this point, to see if he would attend as Paige’s date to the prom. Dr. Lewis has been treating Paige since she was an infant. He responded back that he would be thrilled to escort her for the evening! Both Mona and Dr. Lewis were able to experience the magical evening with Paige. Mona shared the story afterwards on Facebook, along with some pictures from the evening and her post went viral. Many users are commenting on the pediatrician’s kind act and big heart.
