A New York mother successfully fended off a potential infant kidnapper after a woman’s complement of her child rang as a veiled threat. While the mother was shopping at a local mall, she realized that her 18-month-old needed a change. Unable to use the family restroom due to it being locked, the mother used the women’s room.
It was after she had entered the facilities that she recognized someone following her. This stranger, clad is multiple layers and a hat, commented how on beautiful the woman’s child was. Sensing something was off, the mother refused to say anything but noticed the stranger’s subtle attempts at casing the room; the stranger was likely looking over for any potential witnesses. After the stranger was able to confirm that she, the mother and the child, were alone, she entered the mother’s personal space and asked for the child.
With her suspicions confirmed, the mother pushed the stranger away, firmly yelled “No” and bolted for the door. The mother soon ran into two concerned women; she explained the incident in the women’s restroom and officials were brought in to look into the matter. The findings indicated that the strange woman had a suited accomplice; when their plan snarled, the two used a taxi to flee the scene.
The woman’s parting advice from this experience is that people should always be keenly aware of their environment and to listen to their instincts.
