At a book signing for her new book, It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going, Chelsea Clinton was ambushed by a conspiracy theorist who confronted her with a piece of neoconservative gossip alleging that Chelsea was fathered by Clinton lawyer Webb Hubbell and not the former President.
“Has your mother ever told you that you’re the daughter of Webb Hubbell, and not Bill Clinton?” the man asked her, referring to an alleged affair between the Former Secretary of State and the Whitewater figure.
With complete composure, the former First Daughter looked up and smiled, saying, “I am happy to be my parents’ daughter.”
Chelsea is used to being a target of gossip and rumor. She was twelve years old when her father was inaugurated, and journalists allowed Chelsea her privacy until she turned thirteen. At that point, Chelsea became the target of ridicule, mostly based on her appearance, by everyone from Rush Limbaugh to Saturday Night Live.
Undaunted, Chelsea went on to graduate from Stanford University in 2001 and went on to earn numerous degrees from both the University of Oxford and Columbia University. Clearly, Chelsea Clinton is not about to let a conspiracy theorist worry her one bit. Way to shake off the haters, Chelsea!
