VIDEO: These May Look Like Regular Donuts, But They Have One Secret That Makes Them Healthy!

With lines stretching outside artisan bakeries, a rapid increase in demand for new flavors, and popular chains expanding their menus, donuts have officially beaten out cupcakes as the latest trend in desserts.

But sometimes, the last thing you want to do is fight the crowds and overpay at the donut shop down the block from your apartment. Why not learn how to make your own donuts from scratch, and save yourself time and money? As long as your making them yourself, try this oven-baked version as a healthier alternative to the icing soaked, deep fried standard:

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees celsius (394 fahrenheit).

First, put one cup of all-purpose flour in a mixing bowl. Next, add 1/3 of a cup of castor sugar (white sugar) and 3/4, a teaspoon of baking powder, and 3/4 of a teaspoon of baking soda. Mix the dry ingredients.

In another bowl, add 1/2 of a cup of lowfat vanilla yogurt, an egg, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and mix. Then, place the wet ingredients in your dry powdered ingredient bowl and gently stir. To finish up, fold in a couple of handfuls of washed blueberries.

Place the mixture in an oil-greased donut pan, filling each slot about 2/3 of the way full. Bake until golden-brown, about ten to twelve minutes.

If you like, you can sprinkle a bit of vanilla sugar on the cooling donuts.

Serve to your guests, or simply enjoy the donuts all to yourself!
