It can take a lot of bravery to handle animals, especially wild animals. They are not trained to trust humans, and a lot of the time, they will think that any person who comes close or tries to touch them is trying to hurt them. They will then use the defense mechanisms that they have in order to try to protect themselves. Pelicans are no exception to this rule, and they can cause a person serious damage if the person does not know how to handle them properly.
However, this man didn’t know how to handle a pelican in the right way, and because of that, he was able two save its life. He first noticed that a pelican on the pier was in danger in a certain way. It had fishing wire tied around its beak, and it would starve if he did not do something. What he did was make a very quick jump from behind the bird and grab it by the feet. It would have taken off it had he not acted so quickly.
Though the pelican was likely scared and obviously not happy about the fact that the man had wrapped it, it stayed relatively docile and calm while he and another man were able to remove the wire from the bird’s beak and save its life.
This is just one example where a person knew the exact right way to handle a wild animal and was able to help because of this useful knowledge.
