It was 1928 when Minka Disbro went on a picnic that would have a profound impact on her life. She was sixteen and enjoying her time in the woods when a group of three men approached. One man wearing a cowboy hat stepped forward and raped her, resulting in pregnancy.
After naming her baby Betty Jane and keeping her for a short period of time, Minka knew that she had to do what was right for her sweet little girl. She had to give her up for adoption so that the baby would have a better life and she could create a better life for herself.
That may have been the end of the story if it weren’t for Minka’s undying love for the baby she gave away. More than 70 years later, she promised God that she wouldn’t bother Betty Jane if He would just allow her to see her little girl before she died. Minka knew that her daughter, and potentially her grandchildren, were out there, and she wanted to see them just once.
Minka’s adult daughter Cathy heard about her mother’s devotion for the baby she had to give away more than 70 years before, and she was able to arrange a meeting that made her mother’s dreams come true.
