A lone gunman came into a mosque in Quebec and killed five Muslims and injured eight. Alexandre Bisonnette is the attacker. Conservative news outlets stated that the person who did the attack was an Islamic extremist.
However, Alexandre is a right-wing extremist and anti-Islam. Someone who went to school with Alexandre was recently interviewed. This person confirmed that Alexandre was anti-Islam and pro-Trump.
This person also stated that they had gotten into many arguments with this person. There is a Facebook group called “Welcome to Refugees-Quebec City.” This group is very familiar with Alexandre. They stated that he is not only anti-Islam, but he is also an anti-feminist. This attack happened one day after President Trump announced that there would be a travel ban on many countries that are predominately-Muslim.
This attack shows that religion does not play a role in terrorism. However, Donald Trump has not said anything about this attack. Many conservative outlets have not corrected the false information that they put out.
It is not fair to blame a religion on violence. A screenshot of Alexandre’s profile has been posted on many websites. It stated that he was studying political studies at Universite Laval, which is located in Quebec.
