Part of Donald Trump’s campaign strategy seems to involve making controversial and ignorant statements and hurling unfiltered insults at immigrants, especially those from Mexico. It is no wonder why the xenophobic GOP is all over this guy. One of his most controversial statements to date included the claim that Mexicans who come to America are only rapists and criminals. That comment left a putrid taste in my mouth.
Rather than latching shut his controversial trap, Trump has gone the other way, traveling all over America to preach, loudly and proudly that immigrants are the most serious problem facing America today. Not global warming. Not ISIS. Peaceful immigrants.
Yeah, right Donald.
The most ironic part of all this, is a statistical fact: Trump supporters are actually more likely to be involved in crime or have criminal records, than are Mexican immigrants! Much of the demographic backing Trump are of low socioeconomic status and minimal education levels – a demographic renowned for involvement in criminal activities… This fact, in tandem with a study done by the Immigration Policy Center – which shows that immigrants have a lower crime rate than Americans – makes Trumps statements laughable.
But damned if that is stopping the Trumpinator.
Most recently he latched on to an event in San Francisco, where an undocumented immigrant shot and killed a woman. Trump used this isolated event as “proof” that immigrants are likely to be criminals. However, the numbers prove otherwise.
Even though the quantity of undocumented immigrants tripled between 1990 and 2013, there was no corresponding spike in the crime rates. So next time Trump tries using that flacid excuse, just remember: It’s all a giant heap of bullshit – giant Donald Dump.
