Ruby was a baby born with Congenital Melanocytic Nevus, anextremely rare condition that only affects one in 500,000 babies. The condition causes Ruby to have a hairy, dark mark on her face. Even though the mark is non-cancerous it is likely to cause Ruby to develop behavioral and emotional problems as she gets older.
Ruby will need seven operations before she is able to start school. Four of those operations will occur this year alone. Natalie’s mother told Daily Mail that even though Ruby was born with this condition, that does not mean that she has to live with it.
During the first surgery Ruby will have, the doctors will insert a saline-filled balloon underneath her skin. They will then place the excess skin underneath Ruby’s birthmark. Even though many people would say that this is an extreme procedure for a young child, Ruby’s family has stated that they are doing this for her happiness.
The family is raising money to pay for Ruby’s medical expenses, an have so far raised over $24,000 in just one week and a half. Ruby will have a surgery on January 12, and it will cost over $10,000.
