One of the ways that you can really tie your home’s rooms together is with rugs and carpets. Unfortunately, nice carpets are usually expensive. But one woman bypassed the high price tag by resolving to do it herself and make her very own carpets. So she spent $30 on square carpet tiles and some duct tape. The end result is nothing short of amazing, and it’s an easy project to complete with little effort.
Stephanie operates a blog about DIY projects, so when she saw one of the rugs that a friend had, she knew she had to have one herself. She found several carpet tiles on Craigslist (though, most retail stores also sell the tiles). It took a few attempts in order to get the rug just right because she had to use duct tape to keep the squares in place.
The best way to begin this project is to put all of the tiles on the floor to see which way they would look best together. Turn the tiles in different directions so that they aren’t as uniform in appearance. You will likely need carpet adhesive along with the tape so that the pieces stay in one place once you get the right arrangement.
There could be some places where the seams don’t fit as well as others. Shelf liner with grip can be placed on the back of the rug to keep it from sliding on the floor.
