A young woman named Lacey Dunkin has taken on a big job – she’s adopted six little girls who are sisters and is raising them on her own. The story behind how this family came together is both incredible and inspirational.
Dunkin decided when she was 25 that she definitely wanted to adopt children, and it didn’t matter to her whether she was doing it on her own or with a partner. In 2011, she became certified to adopt and soon got a call from an adoption agency. To her surprise, she was asked to adopt not one but rather four children, a group of biological sisters.
Without hesitating, Dunkin welcomed all four little girls into her home. She never even thought about breaking up the sisters by adopting only one of them; it was important to her that they stayed together. The group spent nine happy months together bonding and becoming a family. Then, to Dunkin’s shock, the biological mother regained custody of the girls, and they were taken away from Dunkin.
Dunkin was heartbroken, but a month later she received another call, this time from the biological mother herself who asked Dunkin to take back the girls. The biological mother felt that it would be best for the girls to live with Dunkin permanently, and Dunkin was thrilled to accept them into her home again.
Then, the situation got even more complicated. The biological mother asked Dunkin to take in a fifth sister, and Dunkin, of course, agreed. As if that weren’t enough, during the year-long adoption process, the biological mother gave birth to a sixth child, who ultimately joined Dunkin with her sisters.
Today, all six sisters are living together with Dunkin, and the family couldn’t be happier. Thanks to the devotion of this one remarkable mom, these sisters can grow up knowing one another and sharing the bonds that only siblings have.
