Handcrafted jewelry is a favorite pastime for many and allows you to create beautiful, personalized pieces as gifts or for yourself. People often thing of charms, leather cords and beads, but what about marbles? One woman demonstrated in an online video that you can take ordinary marbles and transform them into stunning crystals for your next DIY project.

To start off, preheat your oven to 500°F. While the temperature rises, you simply need to organize as many marbles as you need on a baking tray. You can choose clear for a natural crystal look, but other colors even swirled ones can create some fantastic and colorful gems for your jewelry. Combining clear and colored marbles in one batch will give you a good set to work with for several projects to come.

Place the marbles in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, monitoring carefully. While you wait, assemble a large bowel of water filled with ice cubes. You want it to be as cold as possible, so prepping the water a few hours beforehand and adding additional ice cubes at the last minute is a good idea.

Once the marbles have finished, you’re going to immediately dump them off the tray into the freezing water. When this happens, the rapid shift in temperature will cause the insides of them marbles to crack but leave their exteriors smooth and untarnished.

Once your marbles are dry, you can use a bead cap and eye pin to thread them together and add fashionable, unique accents to all your own jewelry!
