Over the years, it has been proven time and time again that there is no love lost between Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump. The trouble is believed to have started years ago, when O’Donnell called out Trump’s behavior on The View.
From there, it has only escalated, with Trump even name-dropping O’Donnell during one of the most bizarre moments to ever occur in a presidential debate. Since that incident, the insults have continued to fly back and forth between the former talk show host and reality TV star. Although there have been moments that appear to herald some kind of reconciliation—such as O’Donnell’s chance run-in with Ivanka Trump at the restaurant Nobu—the situation always reverts back to its default position.
For those who were holding their breath for some kind of happy reunion in 2017, rest assured that there will be no such thing. Rosie has come out swinging during the very first days of 2017, with some of her earliest tweets of the year referring to the status of Donald Trump’s mental health. Calling into question the possibility that he may be too mentally ill to serve, she recommends that current president Barack Obama stay in his position until the country can sort out what happened during the election.
Linking to an article about Trump’s expulsion of a critical reporter from his golf course, O’Donnell notes that she believes Trump is mentally unfit to take on the vast responsibilities of serving as the president. In her tweets, Rosie points out that the country has less than three weeks before Trump is sworn in; clearly, if she had anything to do with it, the inauguration would not happen.
Urging her audience to resist Trump and focus on ways to take back America, O’Donnell certainly didn’t pull any punches when it came to her opinion. By posting so many tweets about Trump, it seems that O’Donnell may be attempting to goad him into exhibiting his trademark hotheadedness. Only the following weeks and tweets will tell whether or not it worked.
