President Trump Threatens James Comey in New Tweet

Days after President Donald Trump fired James Comey, he continued his apparent distaste for him as FBI Director. Early Friday morning he went on to verbally threaten Comey, referencing a potential release of “tapes”:

James Comey better hope that there are no “tapes” of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

This tweet comes after the ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia still linger on the minds of the public. These connections are apparently being investigated by the FBI and other agencies, and is said to be the reason for Comey’s abrupt departure.

With this recent development, many are making ties to former President Nixon’s actions, having fired the prosecutor looking into the infamous Watergate scandal. Many insist that this could be a catalyst in the investigation into the Russian ties, as Nixon’s actions also advanced the inquiry into his own scandal.

Trump continues to describe the investigation as a “witch hunt”, claiming that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper had declared there to be “no collusion”. In respect to the claim of “tapes of [Trump and Comey’s] conversations”, Press Secretary Sean Spicer insisted that President Trump had no more to say regarding the matter.

Comey remains unwavered by the claims of of secret recordings of their conversation, stating that he is “not worried about any tapes”.

It is yet to be seen what specifically President Trump was referring to in regards to these alleged “tapes”, but as the escalation of the Russian investigation continues, it remains another layer of confusion.
