Cat owners are always in search of ways to keep their feline friends entertained while at the same time adding a touch of fun to their indoor environment. One woman took this concept a step further by recycling a tree from her own backyard.
The tree had been preventing others from growing. Rather than throwing it away she decided to convert it into a cat playground. She began by stripping excess branches and leaves, then attaching a sturdy round base to the bottom. The next step was making shelf templates out of cardboard and using them as a guide to cut the shapes into maple plywood. The shelves were then carpeted and attached to the top of each branch in a spiral staircase pattern and secured with lag bolts. As a final touch, she wrapped sisal rope in strategic areas to encourage the cats to scratch.
The woman set the tree up in a corner where two windows come together to provide the best vantage point for her cats.
As soon as they saw it, both felines were attracted to the tree, climbing and scratching happily in the sun. The project has gone viral on the Internet and is a conversation piece for any cat owners.
