Camping is a pastime that many people love because it gets them away from civilization for some much needed quiet time. But pitching your tent in the wilderness can be not only be uncomfortable, it can also be dangerous. Tents pitched on the floor of the forest can quickly become flooded.
A tent pitched on mountainous terrain can prevent a camper from getting a good night’s sleep. And tents that are erected on the ground are always subject to invasion from such creatures as snakes, ticks, poisonous insects as well as grizzly bears searching for their next snack.
But a very ingenious camper who goes by the moniker adriankrafft has recently posted a solution online showing camping enthusiasts how to construct a tent that attaches atop their vehicle so that they can use it at their designated campsite, elevated high above ground level and the dangers associated with that.
This project starts with a piece of 4 x 8 plywood that is cut in half to which a frame is constructed from conduit. This frame is then covered with material from a used tent, prior to staining and waterproofing the plywood flooring inside.
A three-inch thick piece of padding is placed atop the plywood to serve as a comfortable mattress. A slide ladder is attached at one end, which is mounted to a roof rack atop the car. A waterproof cover is attached over the tent, ready to use as an elevated tent with collapsible ladder for easy tent entry.
