There are many unexplained mysteries across the globe that scientists may never be able to solve, including that of the unique trees in a forest, often referred to as the “Crooked Forest,” in Poland.
The Crooked Forest is a group of bent pine trees located near Nowe Czarnowo in Poland, and many feel that it is one of the scariest places in Central Europe.
The trees that make up the forest were planted in the 1930s, and 10 years later, they mysteriously bent. What is even more strange is that each of the trees is bent from the base at a 90 degree angle. Additionally, the trees are bent in the same direction, and many have debated whether their shape was caused by humans or something more spooky.
Some have expressed a theory that the changes to the gravitational force in the area could be the cause of the bent trees; however, this theory has been disputed because the gravitational pull tends to pull objects down instead of sideways like the trees.
Other theorists have proposed the idea that heavy amounts of snow might have flattened the trees when they were first planted, and they were never able to straighten themselves out. This theory has also been disputed because there are trees in the forests surrounding the Crooked Forest that are growing straight.
Other more bizarre theories have indicated that the trees have been bent because of extraterrestrial activity or black magic.
One of the more logical explanation that has surfaced indicates that the trees were bent by tanks during World War II, and because they were so small, they were never able to grow properly. Although it seems logical, many have disputed this theory as well, stating that it was odd that only a small area of the forest would be damaged by the tanks, and the damage probably wouldn’t have been deep enough to cause the trees to grow the way they did.
The majority of the population, however, believes that the trees were intentionally planted this way because of the consistency of their direction and the fact that the surrounding forests’ trees are not bent.
Supposedly, in the 1930s, farmers planted and manipulated trees in order to use them for construction purposes. When Poland was invaded during World War II, this would have interrupted the tree planting, which would have prevented the farmers from finishing their project and leaving the trees to grow into what they are today.
No matter what the cause of the crooked trees may be, the Crooked Forest attracts many tourists each year who are eager to see the unique trees and form their own theories about their creation.
