NY Times Confirms: Trump Is Still Using His Unsecured Phone

The New York Times reported Wednesday that President Donald Trump is still using his unsecured Android cell phone inside the White House. This is in contrast to former President Obama and others before him who used Blackberry devices provided by the government. The revelation was shocking to many, considering the attention Trump drew to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

During his campaign, Trump said Clinton’s server was a scandal worse than Watergate, and that she was a criminal. He hinted the emails on that server were directly connected to the attack of the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya, on September 12, 2012, which left four Americans dead. Clinton endured months of hearings about the Benghazi incident, and no evidence of wrongdoing was found.

Right before the election, FBI Director James Comey informed Congress of several emails found on the computer of Congressman Anthony Weiner that seemed to originate from Clinton’s server. This caused public opinion to shift in favor of Trump and may have been a factor in his winning the election.

After the vote, it was discovered that mail servers of both parties had been hacked by Russia. The lack of increased post-election cybersecurity is concerning and suggests the inquiry into Clinton’s activities was created to get Trump into the White House, although the motive remains unclear.
