New Republican Rules Actually Ban Ethics Panel From Reporting Crimes

House republicans just voted 119-74 to put themselves in charge of the ethics committee. The Office of Congressional Ethics investigated Dennis Hastert, who is the former Speaker Of The House.

They found out that he had molested young boys while he worked as a coach. Because the House Republicans have put themselves in charge of The Office Of Congressional Ethics, investigation of crimes may be stopped. Additionally, if crimes are discovered, then they may not be reported to the law enforcement officials.

John Aravois is a LGBT blogger. He stated that the Hastert molestation situation may not be investigated any further because of what the House Republicans just voted for. Keep in mind that the law still has to be voted on by the rest of the house. However, because most of the house is made up of republicans, it is likely that this law will pass.

John is troubled by this potential law. He has stated that even if members of congress are caught molesting children, they may not be reported to the police. Robert W. Goodlate is a representative from Virginia. He was the one who drafted this change. He has stated that the work of congress will not be affected by this amendment.
