Scientist Neil DeGrasse Tyson made an appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show” to deliver an educated rebuttal to B.o.B. The rapper released a series of Tweets claiming that Earth is flat due to its flat horizon. He even attacked Neil DeGrasse Tyson in a diss track titled “Flat Line” saying, “Neil Tyson need to loosen up his vest. They’ll probably write the man one hell of a check.”
Loaded with scientific facts, Tyson shot back at the ill-informed rapper stating, “Your size isn’t relative enough to Earth to notice any curvature at all. It is a fundamental fact of calculus and non-Euclidian geometry.” He goes on to explain the undeniable truth in detail, then comments on how individuals with a large following damage society by spreading such fallacies. Before his epic mic drop, the astrophysicist exclaims, “The Earth isn’t (censored) flat! And by the way, this is called gravity!”
B.o.B has yet to respond to Tyson’s lesson. Is this the end of the rappers “Flat Line” propaganda? One can only hope. As Tyson stated on “The Nightly Show” there is a “growing anti-intellectual strain in this country” that some believe could damage years of advancement achieved by generations of scholars that came before us.
