Missouri Republican Bill Would Ban Poor People From Buying THIS Common Item From The Supermarket

Missouri representative Rick Brattin, a conservative representing Missouri’s 55th district, has stunned many by leading Missouri republicans in trying to change regulations for SNAP, the country’s food stamp program. Under his most recent bill, he is attempting to prohibit recipients from being able to purchase steak and seafood, which he considers luxury items that should only be available to non-welfare recipients. He stated that he doesn’t believe SNAP recipients should be able to use taxpayer money to purchase any steak or seafood items except canned tuna and fish sticks.

The food pyramid calls for a balanced diet with healthy proteins items. Steak and seafood, such as fish and shrimp, are considered important dietary items. The representative stated that food stamp recipients, who are receiving governmental nutritional assistance, shouldn’t be able to purchase items such as crab legs, which he himself cannot afford, with EBT benefits.

His statements have been called into question because Missouri representatives make almost $36,000 a year and are given $104 a day for expenses, including food costs. Their salaries are paid for by Missouri taxypayers. In Missouri, residents can purchase steaks for less than $20 and a pack of filet mignon for under $10. Minimum wage is currently at $7.65 an hour.

Brattin’s bill would have no bearing on the regulations governing the food stamp program because only Congress can make those decisions. The pending bill adds to Brattin’s reputation of bringing ridiculous legislation. In the past, he introduced a bill that would force women to have to get the consent of the fathers before being able to get an abortion.
