The 2016 race for the presidential nomination has been nothing short of eventful. Though much of the focus has been on Hilary Clinton and the e-mail scandal and Donald J. Trump and all his drama. New sources reveal that Trump may be in a bit of hot water yet again. He makes a daily appearance in the news for slanderous comments, lack of knowledge about foreign policy, and a plethora of other things. However, it is his association with Ben Carson that might take him down once and for all.
The entire last week was really bad for the Republican forerunner. His campaign manager was charged with battery for assaulting a reporter. This caused a backlash among the ladies and his approval rating among women dropped to an all-time low of 23 percent. Now, a criminal investigation has been launched over dealings with the past nomination runner, Ben Carson. If only Carson hadn’t been so free with his words during his endorsement things wouldn’t be heading in this direction.
Carson and Trump were bitter rivals on the debate floor. They couldn’t see eye to eye and often had a debate inside of the debate. However, when Carson made an announcement and told the world that he was supporting Trump and he had his vote; the world just didn’t buy it. It is alleged that Trump offered him a key cabinet position if he would give him the endorsement that he wanted. Of course, offering anybody a job if and when they become president is illegal and devious. There’s no guarantee Trump will be president, let alone the fact that he could already be making illegal deals. He was supposed to be different than the average politician, or at least that is what his campaign has been all about.
If in fact Trump did promise Carson a position, it is in direct violation of Code 18 U.S.C. § 599. Do you wonder where all this speculation is coming from? Well, comments Carson made left many people to believe that he didn’t want to endorse Trump, but he was promised great things if he did. Some say that it is only illegal if you are no longer a candidate, which Carson wasn’t at the time. Certainly, one would think that Trump, being a strong force on for the Republican Party, wouldn’t do something so ludicrous to mess up his race to the White House.
It all comes back to those comments that Carson said. Carson is an educated man, a doctor. Why in the world would he lead the public to believe that he was being “paid off?” When he told the news that he is confident he would play a role in his administration, many heads turned. Carson knew he didn’t stand a chance against the “big picture guy,” so he dropped out of the race. However, many feel that his endorsement was a backhand slap. Sure, he did say that he thought Trump was going to go all the way and he was going to stand beside him. It was reading between the lines that really is causing the ruckus. Could it be that Trump promised him a lucrative position for his approval?
The race to the White House is getting really interesting to say the least. What went on between the two is being investigated. However, it’s unlikely that Trump will see any charges come from this, as it is purely based on speculation. Trump may want to reconsider who he would put in a leadership position. No matter how smart Ben Carson seems to be, he made a pretty stupid move.
