Super cars have long been a passion of many car enthusiasts. Children and adults alike have had posters and models of these cars decorating bedrooms and garages all over the world. Ken Imhoff took his passion for the Lamborghini Countach and made something unbelievable. After watching the movie Cannonball Run, Ken decided to go on an undertaking that would last 17 years. What Ken has recently unveiled is simply amazing.
Ken loved the Lamborghini so much that he decided to make his own version of the car seeing that the original was way out of his price range. He started with a jig and used an English Wheel to shape the complex aluminum siding to fit the jig. What’s amazing is the aluminum was shaped by look and feel alone. After the panels were shaped and completed, Ken welded everything together.
Ken also managed to create an aluminum car frame made entirely by hand. Ken’s engineering degree helped some, but the process was still extremely difficult. The first thing to be installed in the frame was the transmission and a Boss 351 V8 motor connected to ZF gearbox.
After assembling all the parts, Ken primered and painted the car. When it was finished, it was a nearly identical model to the real Countach. The only problem was the car was assembled in a basement and had no way of getting outside without knocking down a wall. Ken had a ramp excavated and a wall removed to have the car moved out into the sunlight. His 17 years of work sure paid off.
