Idaho Arms It’s Teachers. The Result? Professor Shoots Himself First Week. What Now GOP!?

It seems pretty obvious that the solution to violence IS NOT more weapons. But the state of Idaho recently voted to allow teachers to arm themselves in classrooms in an attempt to minimize gun violence in schools. Only one week into the half-baked new policy, a professor shot himself in the foot.

The incident occurred at Idaho State University where the professor was carrying a concealed firearm, legally permitted by law. The weapon discharged in his pocket, firing the bullet directly to his own foot and was taken to a local hospital.

Some students and faculty were concerned that no alarm had been raised, but the school said it was an isolated incident and no one was in any danger. Except the guy who shot himself, of course. The police have the ruled the discharge to be an accident and will graciously not be filing charges.

Arming teachers has strangely become a popular idea in the US, but it obviously does not work in practice. Let’s leave the heroics to the professionals and leave the teachers to teaching. Arming people in our classrooms would surely cause more trouble than it would minimize it.

The National Education Association itself has stated it does not think teachers should be armed, schools should have a resource officer on hand to deal with gun violence. Someone who is trained, and able, and won’t shoot himself n the foot on accident. Way to go professor – you made a perfect example of yourself.
