His Unexpected Facebook Post About His 75-Year-Old Neighbor Blows Up Online

When you post something to Facebook, you never know how many views it’s going to get. It could be seen by someone from another country. David Perez had been seeing how his elderly neighbor was struggling to fix his roof for some time. Richard Dubiel is 75, and he would get on his roof every day to replace or repair shingles. Perez couldn’t stand to see him up there, and he took a picture of Dubiel to put on Facebook, showing how hard the man was working.

Perez commented under the picture, asking those who saw it to help his neighbor. Perez doesn’t have roofing skills and wanted to know if anyone had any experience in roofing who might be able to keep his neighbor off of the roof so that he wouldn’t get hurt.

The neighbor had all of the materials needed for the job. Over 1,000 people shared the picture and the information. A few days later, about 40 people arrived at the man’s home to help him with his roof.

Others took water, pizza and other food to the people who volunteered their time to help another. Dubiel was surprised when people showed up at his house to help him, but he was appreciative of the extra hands as his knees and back wouldn’t let him work for long periods of time.
