Over a few days, a man took his son to the poor side of town to show the young man how they lived. The boy’s story was shared over Facebook as a fictional tale with nameless characters.
This trip leads them to the country where they stay at a farm living in the poor environment. On the return trip, the father starts questioning his son, asking him if he liked the trip and what he learned. The boy answered by saying that he had a great time and he learned that the poor people that they hired to serve them are just people. Instead of buying their food like the boy’s father did, these poor people grew theirs.
Along with that, these people serve others instead of being served like the privileged family the boy came from. While his family lived in a large place with a yard, these poorer people had a large field to tend so they could eat that stretched beyond what he’d imagined. While the father was quiet, the boy finished his explanation by saying that their own family was really the poor one.
At the end of the Facebook post, the author explains that sometimes it’s important to view things in this childlike perspective because we often compare our lives to the lives of others and we’re not able to see what we have is important too.
