He’s Been A Police Officer For 28 Years. And Finally Hears THIS On His Radio…

Douglas Hogate, Sr. had served the community of Salem City, New Jersey as police officer since 1988. Two years ago, Hogate finally achieved his dream of becoming a sergeant. In an interview with NJ.com, he said that he never aspired to be a lieutenant or chief because he liked being outside on the road and meeting people.

Recently, Hogate decided 28 years was enough time on the job and decided to retire. He worked his final shift and gave his last code three on March 24. A coworker recorded his radio call-in on her mobile phone as Hogate shed tears. The best part was yet to come.

When Hogate finished his code three, he was greeted by the voice of his son on the radio. Douglas Hogate, Jr. had been working as a Salem County dispatcher for the last decade and wanted to give his father a proper send off. He announced to the entire department that his dad, badge number 612, was leaving after 28 years of service and wished him a happy retirement.

Hogate, Sr. thanked him and then received a hug from the officer recording him. It was the perfect ending to a long and distinguished career.
