Marriage starts off with love, hope and trust. Unfortunately nowadays more than half the people who get married are eventually divorced. Recently Sue Ann Arnall who had refused a check with a lump sum of $974,790,317.77 from Harold Hamm, an oil tycoon.
He said he just wanted to settle right away with the settlement that he owed. Did she think she may get more out of the deal? Shed much rather have it paid in smaller payments? Once she had received the check, Arnall decided to send it back, refusing it.
Arnall was married to Hamm for over 26 years and her lawyers believe that, compare to his fortune, he should be paying a lot more than $1 billion. His fortune is estimated between 17 and 18 billion dollars. The the appeal, they said that she helped build up Hamm’s empire and he shouldn’t be keeping 90 percent of it.
When the initial $1 billion settlement was ordered, Hamm deemed it faired but soon appealed it to pay her even less after falling oil prices. He lost billions over the year thanks to his company’s decline. Hamm has already paid Arnall $20 million during all the divorce proceedings.
