Have an old tire? Need a new table? Some people would just throw away the tire and buy a table, but Phil Mutz of littlethings.com saw a unique opportunity.
So what did he do? He transformed his old tire into a classy and stylish ottoman table! Here’s how he did it:
First, gather materials. You’ll need the tire, thin slabs of wood cut into the circles the same size as your tire, sealant, cloth, a brush, a lot of rope, screws and a screwdriver, a drill, and a glue gun.
Clean the tire, lay it on its side, then place the wood over it and drill three holes deep enough to pierce the tire. Then screw the wood to the tire. Do this to both sides of the tire.
Glue one end of the rope to the very center of the board, then start coiling the rope around in an outward spiral from the center, gluing down at many points as you go. When you reach the end of the wood, start on the rim of the tire and make sure the rope transitions from wood to tire seamlessly. Flip the tire and keep gluing until all of the rubber is covered. Then cut the rope and glue the end on!
Now, use your brush to apply a layer of sealant to the whole thing. When it dries, apply another layer.
Once that dries, you have a rugged rope ottoman table that looks great in almost any setting!
