Facing Euthanization: Lonely, 16yo Stray Seemed Hopeless – But Not For Long!

Animal rescue shelters are full of lovable dogs in desperate need of some love and a home. These poor creatures are in danger of being stuck in a cage for a few short and lonely years before their euthanization – many shelters do not have resources to house the dogs indefinitely and must choose some aging dogs to euthanize every month.

These unfortunate circumstances mean that some stray and abandoned dogs will don’t get a chance at a healthy, happy life. Bear, a 16 year old German Shepherd mixed breed, is one survival story that ends in happy tears. Bear was found wandering the streets, emaciated and afraid…

He hadn’t been born a stray dog, but instead had been abandoned by his family and left to fend for himself with no survival skills and nowhere to go for safety or even just food and clean water. Fortunately, compassionate foster dog owner swooped in and was able to provide the tender loving care that Bear needed so badly.

He slowly began to gain weight and eventually reached healthy levels of fat deposits, and a shiny new coat as his bald patches began fill in again. Bear received a new name, Norman, from his dedicated new family and finally got to feel loved, cared for, and most importantly – worth saving.
