Cops Kept Black Woman In Psych Ward For 8 Days. Why? Their Reason Makes Me SICK

Just when we think the world has made significant progress, an incident happens that make us shake our heads. Kam Brock, a 32 year old African American businesswoman from Long Island, was driving her BMW in Harlem last September, when she was pulled over and accused of being high on marijuana even though no drugs were found in her vehicle. However, her car was impounded.

She ended up in the hospital when she went to go pick up her vehicle and told police officers about their mistake. When she tried to tell them that she was a businesswoman, they thought she was delusional and needed to be locked in a psych ward. She states, “Next thing you know, the police held onto me, the doctor stuck me with a needle and I was knocked out. I woke up to them taking off my underwear and then went out again. I woke up the next day in a hospital robe.”

While she was in the hospital, Brock attempted to explain that they had made a mistake. She told the doctors about her career, and the fact that President Obama follows her on Twitter. The doctors could have easily verified all of this.

Instead, Brock was forced to go to group therapy, and she was forced to take lithium and lorazepam pills as well as deal with injections of heavy sedatives. She got a $13,000 medical bill and no apology when she was finally released.

She is now suing the city.
