Betsy (Elizabeth) McCaughey walked out of The Daily Show during an interview with correspondent Jordan Klepper about the success of Obamacare. Klepper stated, “It’s been a tough road for critics of this law. The people that are behind repealing this, are we going to get them on our side?” McCaughey took of her mic and walked out of the interview.

McCaughey is a politician known for her outspoken views against the Clinton healthcare plan and Obamacare. It is said that she helped defeat Clinton’s bill in 1993, after she published an Op-Ed for The Wall Street Journal, and an extended version for The New Republic. Tobacco company Philip Morris stated that their representatives collaborated with McCaughey on the article.

When McCaughey spoke out against Obamacare in 2009, she made claims about the bill that are said to have inspired Sarah Palin’s claims that the legislation would lead to “death panels.”

McCaughey served as the Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1995-1998. She was dropped from the 1998 ticket, and instead switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party in an attempt to get a nomination for Governor. She switched to the Liberal Party for the ballot after she did not secure the nomination.
