Braids are a simple staple of many girls’ childhood because they are an easy way to keep hair from becoming unruly. They are especially associated with Germanic and Scandinavian cultures, with iconic images of milkmaids and yodelers in lederhosen sporting thick braids and hoisting steins full of beer.
However, they haven’t usually been associated with high fashion… until now. The Modern Milkmaid Braid takes its inspiration from those milkmaids of yore, but puts a new spin on the classic look. Part your hair down the middle and create a fishtail braid on each side, secured with a hair tie. Don’t make either braid too tight. Pull them on top of the head and criss-cross them to make it look like you have a headband of hair. Allow a few stray wisps to dangle freely for a lovely look.
You can do the Knotted Braid with some help from a friend. Put texturizing paste on your hair so it is easy to grab ahold of. Divide your hair into five different portions, and put mini-buns in each section of hair. Use hair ties to keep the hair knots in place. Eventually, they will all come together to form a super-knot that will look very chic.
Other examples of hip braids that are turning heads on the runway include the Boho Pony Braid, Mini Mohawk Braids, Chic Bun Braid, Flirty Fishtail, Braided Power Pony, Messy Up-Do, Braided Ballerina Bun and Twisted Braid.
