An Unprecedented Decision: Pres. H.W. Bush Sr. Endorses Hillary Clinton – Stuns Republicans

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is getting a great deal of support from unlikely sources. Not only has Clinton been endorsed by two of the most conservative newspapers in the nation, the Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News, but now she has an endorsement from former Republican President George H. W. Bush.

Bush, who is now 92 years old, did not officially endorse Clinton yet, but information about his preference for a Clinton White House was leaked to the press by Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend. Townsend is an experienced politician has served as the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland for many years. She is also the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy.

Apparently Bush mentioned to Townsend that he would feel great regret if the Republican nominee Donald Trump were in power. This is a very surprising comment due to the fact that Bush lost his second term to Hillary Clinton’s husband, Bill Clinton, back in 1993.

One of the major reasons people believe former President Bush does not like Trump has to due with Trump’s policies on immigration. One of George H. W. Bush’s sons, Jeb Bush, is actually married to a Hispanic woman, and the Bush family is very tolerant of Hispanic culture and heritage.

Of course, one of Trump’s major campaign promises to supporters includes a proposed wall along the U.S./Mexico border. Bush probably interprets this wall as a symbol of intolerance and as antithetical to the values the USA was founded upon.

It should also be remembered that Jeb Bush did unsuccessfully run against Donald Trump in the Republican Primaries. Jeb Bush most famously served as the governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007.

George H. W. Bush’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton will certainly boost Clinton’s public image to hesitant voters. As the General Election draws closer, Americans can expect to see more and more of these endorsements from prominent American political figures.
