When a child dies too soon, those who are left with the memory of that person often want just another moment so that they can be together as a family. For a father and mother in Britain, that desire came true after the father found a letter behind his daughter’s bedroom mirror.
The parent’s 13-year-old passed away as a result of bone cancer. Athena’s father was taking the time to go through the belongings in her room when he noticed the letter.
This wasn’t just a short note telling her family she loved them. She wrote a long script on the entire back of her mirror. Although she had six sisters and three brothers, Athena always found a way to fit in with the family and to stay positive in the face of her cancer.
Before she died, Athena wrote about 3,000 words in her letter, encouraging others going through the same struggles that she was with chemotherapy and the pain of the cancer in her body.
She talked about the purpose of life and how to be happy. Athena wanted others to know that you have to make every day special because you might not get another day with family and friends. The letter was discovered a only a few days after Athena died, and it is now a treasure for the family.
