When it’s time for children to start back to school, you might see a few things that make you think of your own days of being in class. Most of the items that are now available are technical since students use computers, mobile devices and advanced calculators for schoolwork. There are a few older supplies that are still floating around in stores and online that will likely make you take a trip down memory lane.
One of the things that you might have used for carrying books and other supplies is a satchel with a picture of the United States on the front. A small pencil box could have also been used that featured clasps on one side. A metal compass with a sharp point on one end might have been used to draw circles and angles.
There were also large flash cards with one math problem on each side of the card. The answer would have been in the lower corner on the opposite side so that it couldn’t be seen. Crayons came in yellow and green boxes, and there were only 8 in a box instead of the numerous colors available today.
Your day wasn’t complete until you used the small metal safety scissors in art. Another staple in the classroom was the pencil sharpener with various holes depending on the size of the pencil. All of these items are enough to make you remember what it was like during the simpler days of being in school.
